Formal meal surprise of informal foods – Another party idea can fit whatever dishes or entertaining you want to do. If you have formal china and glassware and you want to show it off, arrange a sit down dinner with it all on display. The kicker is the meal…prepare an extremely informal meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, chile, goulash or whatever isn’t considered a normal meal. The reverse can hold true as well. If you want to prepare a special gourmet meal with escargot, foie gras, hummingbird soup, risotto, or other “special” dishes, with an aged wine, then set the table with newspapers, plastic glasses, plastic flatware and paper napkins. This is guaranteed to jump-start conversation…particularly when the guests start reading the newspapers at their place setting! If you want to spend some more time…scan newspapers for subjects according to each individual’s interests and ensure those articles are at that particular guest’s place.
